Kochi: In a significant development, M Sivasankar has been remanded in 7-day custody of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday by a principal sessions court in Kochi.
The ED also informed the court the IAS officer is the fifth accused in the money laundering case related to the smuggling of gold into the state through diplomatic channels.
ED in its custody application filed before the court noted Sivasankar as the fifth accused.
The court directed that Sivasankar should be interrogated only from 9 am to 6pm. He will appear before the court on November 4 again. At the same time, the court has granted him the permission to meet his son, brother and wife, if demanded. The court also directed that Ayurvedic treatment should be given if requested without interrupting the interrogation.
He is the fifth accused along with Swapna Suresh, Sarith, Sandeep Nair and Faisal Fareed.
