25 people have been diagnosed with symptoms of Shigella in the regions of Mundikkalthazham and Chelavur. The Health Department has issued precautionary guidelines following the new cases. The officials have decided to strengthen the preventive measures if the number of cases increase.
The first ever case of Shigella Disease in the State was reported in 2018. Shigella can spread through contaminated water, food, and contact with infected people. The main symptoms of Shigella include diarrhea, fever and abdominal pain.
The symptoms will appear within one to seven days of contact with the infected person. Personal hygiene is the most important thing to keep the disease at bay. Health experts recommend keeping your hands clean and drinking only boiled water.
