Schools to reopen tomorrow in the State after a long interval

Thiruvananthapuram: Schools in the state to reopen tomorrow with 50 % students in the class at a time. The Education Department has recommended that only 50% of students be allowed in at a time and that classes be arranged as one child per bench for the first week.

According to the guidelines of the Director of Public Instruction, schools with more than 300 students in classes 10 and 12 should allow only 25% students at a time.

Schools should be equipped with masks, digital thermometers, sanitizers and soap. Students who are unable to attend can take part in the classes through Online.

Children should be admitted only with the consent of the parents. The digital classes for Class 10 and Class 12 will be completed by January 15 and 30 respectively. The guidelines also state that classes should be divided into 2 phases of 3 hours in the first week and 3 hours in the afternoon.

Shift system can be introduced if required. physical distance of 2m should be ensured between children. Students should avoid eating together. They should also be directed not to share food, water and other accessories. Classroom door handles, desks and dusters should be sanitized every 2 hours. It is also suggested that a health check-up facility be set up for children and teachers if required.

Safe distance should be mandatory on school vehicles. Thermal inspection should be done before boarding the vehicles. The mask must be worn. Counseling should be provided if students need psychological support.
Special support should be given to children with disabilities. The services of resource teachers should be utilized to provide home-based study support to children with special needs if needed.

The Department of Education also directed that a corona cell must be formed in all schools under the leadership of the Principal.
