Thiruvananthapuram: Theatre owners said they will not open theatres soon in the State even after they been given permission to open theatres in the state. The final decision will be made after holding discussions with the producers, distributors and the theatre owners.
At present the State government has proposed to start operations with a capacity of 50% people. the theatre owners are of the opinion that this will incur a huge financial burden.
The FIOK Executive Committee, a joint body of filmmakers, will meet on March 5, the date from when the theatres are given the permission to restart their operations. FIOK officials said that they will hold detailed talks with the producers and distributors on the opening of theatres.
The reluctance of families to come to the theatres as the Corona threat persists is a setback to the theater owners. There is no clarity about the release of the movies. In this case, the owners are expecting a reduction in the electricity fixed charge and an entertainment tax deduction.
Meanwhile, the Multiplex theatres in shopping malls are not part of the FIOK Association. There are possibilities that such theaters start screening of foreign language releases.
