Free COVID vaccine for all, says Governor in customary policy address in Kerala Assembly

Thiruvananthapuram:  Kerala promises free, universal and rapid COVID-19 vaccination, Governor Arif Mohammed Khan said in his customary policy address at the inaugural session of the 15th Kerala Legislative Assembly on Friday.

The government took various steps including of inviting global tender for vaccine and the people’s support for the vaccine challenge is exemplary, the Governor said.

He said the economy needs to improve despite Covid challenge in the state which was able to limit Coronavirus mortality to 6,612 deaths despite a spike in infections.

Claiming that packages announced during Covid is a big relief to the people, Mr Khan said the government will continue to work for the welfare of the people and the upliftment of those in the lower level.

The State will ensure the distribution of kits of essential commodities and welfare pensions, he added.

Stating that the State Gross Domestic Product (SGDP) declined by 3.82%, he said importance will be given to huge investments in higher education sector.

Kerala will boost agriculture production with focus on agro-processing. Every taluk will have a 24-hour veterinary service system.

In view of COVID lockdown, Government will introduce an electronic file clearing system and free internet to poor families as part of digitalising all government services.

On his arrival at the Assembly, the Governor was given a ceremonial guard of honour and red carpet welcome.

He was received by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Speaker M. B. Rajesh and Minister for Parliamentary Affairs K Radhakrishnan.
