A 52-day monsoon season trawling ban will come into effect from the midnight of June nine to July 31 in Kerala, officials said on Thursday.
This decision was taken in a Cabinet meeting, according to a press release from the Chief Minister’s Office.
Fishing vessels from other states operating along the Kerala coast must leave the region before June 9, sources said.
The Cabinet also decided to appoint Dr N Jayaraj, Kerala Congress (M), as the Government Chief Whip with a Cabinet rank.
The Cabinet decided to allot Rs 5 lakh from the Chief Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund as fixed deposit in the bank account of the son of Ms Saumya who died in a Hamas rocket attack in Israel.
