A round-the-clock police helpline has been announced in Kerala for women to report instances of dowry harassment.
Addressing a press conference here this evening, State Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said women can report domestic violence, gender crime and issues related to dowry harassment to the police helpline number 94979 96992.
Mentioning the rising number of women death related to dowry harassment in the State, he said several newly married women commit suicide due to torture at the hands of their husband or in-laws.
Pointing out that the Indian Constitution ensures equal right and protection for all genders, he said the District Police Chiefs would directly intervene in complaints received at the helpline.

Men should not think that dowry is a right, and also they should not think that the marriage is way to earn wealth. This social evil is against the progressive culture of Kerala, the CM felt.
Men should not think that beating their wife was a sign of masculinity, he added.
