Thiruvanathapuram: News of slight relief for Malayalees now as the covid restrictions in the state has relaxed based on the review meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Tuesday evening. Weekend lockdowns will be implemented only on Sundays, Saturday lockdowns has lifted. Shops can open six days in a week from Monday through Saturday.  Chief Minister will announce the changes in the assembly today. Even after weekend lockdown restrictions and other restrictions, covid cases were not reducing, and hence the current changes were decided by review committee. People in the state were really fed up with the weekend lockdowns on Saturdays and Sundays as it restricted many of their day to day and urgent activities.

Restrictions based on Test Positivity Rate (TPR) are withdrawn.  Now onwards the restrictions will be implemented depending on the number of covid patients. Covid spread in places will be studied upon how many people out of thousand people have tested positive. Restrictions will be more in places where covid patients are more and there will be more relaxations in places where covid patients are less. Relaxations will be implemented from next week.

On Aug 15th and Aug 22nd, Independence Day and Third day of Onam (Avittom) respectively which fall on Sundays, covid restrictions will not be implemented. Micro Management zones will be in place where covid cases are high. As per reports, more than half of local self government offices are closed.  There have been criticisms from several quarters including the covid preventive measures by state government are very unscientific. As the onam festivities are nearing, opening of shops six days a week will be economically beneficial for the traders who has suffered large financial losses due to lockdown, the rise in the number of covid cases is still a pending question before the state government.
