Kottayam: Suicide cases continue in Kerala due to financial as well as mental hardships people face due to covid and lockdown. Today two people committed suicide, one in Kottayam and other in Thiruvananthapuram. K T Thomas, a tea shop owner from Ettumanoor, Kottayam and Murugan from Balaramapuram in Thiruvananthapuram ended their lives. In past one and half weeks an alarming number of 20 suicides were reported. Most cases were of traders suffering from financial crisis due to covid.
K T Thomas was a tea shop owner in Ettumaoor in Kottayam. His shop was in Punnathura Kattodu junction. This incident took place at around 4 pm, when people saw the shutter of his shop was down; they barged inside and found him dead. He had a Bakery earlier. He was involved in a case where a woman got hit with his scooter. He was very much distressed about this issue. And then, during the lockdown crisis his business also became dull.
Murugan from Balaramapuram in Thiruvananthapuram was found dead inside his home. He was also having financial crisis due to lockdown.
Lockdown has made lives of many people in trouble. Unscientific lockdown measures, continuous revised regulations by the state government and increasing covid crisis have put lives of many people including traders into misery.
