Malappuram: Serious allegations are surfacing against Ministers, V Abdurahiman, and Mohammed Riyas, in the Tanur boat accident. A person who had approached V Abdurahiman, earlier, to complain about the ‘Atlantic’ boat, involved in the accident, was snubbed by the Minister.
The incident took place on 23rd last month when Minister Abdurahiman, who is also the MLA of Tanur, and PWD Minister, Mohammed Riyas, arrived in Tanur for the inauguration of a floating bridge.
The complainant, Muhajid, a fisherman and a boat owner, had tried to warn the Ministers about the Atlantic boat’s condition. He had complained that the Atlantic did not have proper registration and that the driver of the boat had no license.
However, instead of considering the complaint, Minister Abdurahiman got angry with Muhajid and asked him if he was the person who decided if the boat had registration or not. Meanwhile Mohammed Riyas conveniently avoided Muhajid.
When Muhajid approached Mohammed Riyas, the Minister asked him to give a complaint in writing to his personal assistant. Though, the complaint was written down by Riyas’ assistant, no follow ups were done.
Natives of the area where the accident took place had also said that they had warned about the condition of the boat earlier itself. When the boat was confiscated by the Police last month, it was quickly returned after the local office of a Minister intervened in the matter.
The boat tragedy is quickly turning into a political fight with DCC president of Malappuram accusing the Minister’s office of being complicit in the boat’s continued operations in the waters without proper registration or documents.
