THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Indian Medical Association (IMA) said that they would continue the statewide strikes called in the wake of the murder of Dr Vandana Das. The IMA has declared this after the discussion with the Chief Minister. “The Chief Minister had a sympathetic ear towards our demands, so we would continue the strike till the government addresses our grievances”, informed the IMA.
The organizations are determined not to back down from strike until a decision is taken regarding Hospital Protection Ordinance and also on declaring hospitals as a special protection zones. As part of the strike, IMA will conduct marches to all district centres and the secretariat today. The Kerala Government Medical Officers’ Association (KGMOA) will refrain from duty today. At present, doctors are cooperating only with emergency medical care in hospitals across the state. The OPs will come to a standstill if the strike intensifies. It is reported that all the health workers in the state are in support of the strike.
