THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The rains will intensify in the state as ‘Mocha’ cyclone in the south-east Bay of Bengal may intensify into a severe cyclonic storm in the Central Bay of Bengal by Friday evening. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has reported that that the cyclone will not directly affect Kerala but will bring rainfall.
No alert has been issued in any of the districts today. But rain is likely in northern and southern districts today afternoon. Heavy rainfall is expected at isolated places. IMD has informed that isolated rainfall is likely in Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod districts in the coming days.
IMD has not issued any restrictions on fishing in the Kerala-Karnataka-Lakshadweep beaches. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the north-east Bay of Bengal, central Bay of Bengal and Andaman Sea from May 12 to 14. The instructions also apply to boats, vessels and trawlers.
