According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), monsoon is likely to reach the Nicobar Islands, South Andaman Sea and South Bay of Bengal regions within the next 48 hours. It is also forecasted that rain or thundershower is likely to occur at few places in Kerala in the next five days.
Usually, monsoon reaches Kerala on June 1. In the last five years, the onset of Monsoon over Kerala occurred on June 1 only one time. The monsoon reached early in 2018 and 2022. At the same time, monsoon was delayed in 2019 and 2021. The rain is likely to intensify in Kerala marking the onset of monsoon.
The IMD has predicted that thunderstorm with lighting is very likely to occur at one or two places in Kerala. Earlier, the Met office informed that monsoon will reach Kerala on June 4.
Hot and discomfort weather is very likely over Kollam, Kottayam, Alappuzha, Kozhikode, Palakkad, Kannur, Thrissur, Thiruvanathapuram and Malappuram districts except in hilly areas due to high temperature and humid air during next 2 days
