Thiruvananthapuram: The fallout from the political killings of two Youth Congress leaders at Kasargod is brewing trouble in the Communist government with Left Democratic Front (LDF) convener A. Vijayaraghavan criticising the Revenue Minister E. Chandrashekharan for visiting the homes of the victims.
The LDF convener said that the Revenue Minister visiting the homes of those killed, allegedly at the behest CPI(M), will send a wrong signal to the people. He also added that visits of LDF leaders and Ministers would not solve the problem.
Vijayaraghavan, the convener of LDF is from CPI(M), the major partner of the alliance while E. Chandrashekharan comes from the Communist Party of India (CPI).
Interestingly, the Revenue Minister was quick to condemn the brutal killings of the Congress workers. The Minister followed this by a visit to the house of the victims on Wednesday, which led to the sudden outburst from the LDF convener.
The spat between CPI(M) and CPI also went a notch higher when the CPI State Secretary Kaanam Rajendran supported the Revenue Minister’s visit.
The CPI(M) leadership in the State is jittery following the double murder. They fear that the visit will only help in strengthening the opinion that the party is behind the murders.
