Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala tops the list of states in the number of dearness allowance (DA) arrears of government employees. While most of the states have cleared the arrears till last year, Kerala is yet to pay five installments of 2.5 years. Government employees are losing 15% of their basic salary every month due to not granting the DA.
If installments are being withheld till next Pay Revision, then they will not get DA arrears. If the installments are sanctioned in stages, the salary will be increased and the arrears will be merged into the provident fund. DA will go up to 22% of basic pay if 15% to be received is granted. It is reported that the central government may announce four percent DA again in July. With that, Kerala’s arrears will rise to 19 percent.
Dearness allowance (DA) is a cost of living adjustment that the government pays to public sector employees and pensioners.
