Malappuram: A report said that a relative of activist and CPI(M) supporter, Razak Payambrot, revealed that Razak would not have committed suicide if he was shown some support by CPI(M). Razak’s relative, Jamaludeen Payambrot, a former branch secretary of the communist party, said that Razak committed suicide in an act of protest.
Jamaludeen asked why the CPI(M) is supporting the factor owned by an SDPI activist. Razak had submitted many complaints to the CPI(M) controlled Panchayat against this factory, which was polluting the area. The pollution from the plastic treatment factory is said to have led to the death of Razak’s brother a few months ago.
According to the report, Jamaludeen said that Razak was happy when CPI(M) had won the panchayat. But when the panchayat president heard the news of Razak’s death, he said that a ‘worm’ is dead.
Jamaludeen said that he is not against the party but the local leadership is creating issues.
The report also said that wife of Razak Payambrot, Sheeja, has given a complaint to the police to conduct a comprehensive investigation in to her husband’s death, including the role of the local CPI(M) leadership.
Razak Payambrot committed suicide last Friday at the Pullikal panchayat office. He was found hanging with a bundle of his complaints, that he wrote to the panchayat office, and his suicide note in a bag worn around his neck. He was a well known cultural activist in the region and also ran an evening newspaper called ‘Kondotty Times’.
Following the suicide of Razak Payambrot, the residents of Pullikal had stalled an attempt to reopen the factory.
