Thiruvananthapuram: Schools will reopen tomorrow in the state after a two month mid-summer vacation. Teachers are at their final stage of preparation to welcome the little ones in the world of letters. More than three lakh children are entering the first standard. The Education Department has informed that all preparations have been completed to begin a new academic year.

State-level school reopening festival ‘praveshanolsavam’ will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan at Malayinkeezhu UP School. Reopening festival is organized at district level and school level. Various Ministers will inaugurate the programs at district level. Preparations for the reopening of schools like repairs of school buildings, classrooms, toilets etc have been completed by coordinating various departments. All the preparations for the reopening festival will be completed today with the decorations of the classrooms.

Strict interventions and actions were taken by the government to prevent the use and sale of drugs targeting schools. Officers assigned the task of anti-drug operations in each school. Excise has also directed to form anti-drug clubs in all schools. Also they will take actions to revoke the license of shops in school premises if they are selling intoxicants. There will shadow police patrolling centered around the schools from 1st June. Monitoring will be done at least three days in a week in the premises of schools that require special attention. Steps are also being taken to inform parents if the children are going out during schools hours.
