Wayanad: According to media reports, a Congress leader and former president of a Pulpally Cooperative Bank, KK Abraham, was arrested for loan fraud and also in connection with the suicide of a farmer, Rajendran Nair.
KK Abraham, the general secretary of KPCC, was taken into custody from his home, said the report.
Rajendran Nair, a farmer, had committed suicide by consuming poison and his body was found in his field. In the bank records, it is shown that Rajendran Nair had taken a loan of Rs.25 lakhs by pledging the land. However, the Rajendran had claimed that he took only Rs.80,000 as loan.
The loan fraud came to light when a former vice president of the Cooperative Bank said that Rs.25 lakhs was taken as loan in Rajendran Nair’s name by forging his signature, the report said. Kurian accused KK Abraham and his assistant for committing the loan fraud. According to the report, Kurian said that the Congress leader and his assistant stole crores of rupees in this manner.
Rajendran Nair’s relatives and the action council have said that they will hold a protest with his body in front of KK Abraham’s home. They also demanded that the body will not be cremated unless compensation is announced immediately.
