Kannur: A train coach was caught on fire in the early hours of Thursday at Kannur railway station. The fire spread in one of the coaches of the Alappuzha-Kannur Express train. The fire occurred when the train was halted at the railway station and the engine detached.
Strangely, this was the very same train that Shahrukh Saifi had tried to set on fire on April 2.
CCTV visuals show a man walking towards the train with a can in his hand.
According to reports, railway authorities are claiming that this is an act of arson. The fire broke out when the train was halted at the station and the engine detached from it. So, the chance of a short circuit is negligible, said a report.
Besides, the fire engulfed the train from all sides at once, which further leads to the suspicion that this could be an act of sabotage.
Fortunately, the fire was extinguished after three teams of fire force spent hours trying to bring it under control. The coach has been completely destroyed.
The timely intervention of the fire force and their ability to bring the fire under control prevented a major disaster from happening as the Bharat Petroleum Corporation’s fuel tank was only 100 meters away from the burning coach.
Meanwhile, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has sought information from the police regarding the incident. The NIA’s investigation into the train burning case at Elathur by Shahrukh Saifi is still in progress.
