Malappuram: BJP State General Secretary K. Surendran has withdrawn a case he had filed in High Court against fraud electoral practices during the 2016 Assembly elections. The United Democratic Front (UDF) led by Congress had won the Manjeshwaram seat by 89 votes.
K. Surendran alleges that 259 proxy votes were cast which favored his rival P. B. Abdul Razak, the Muslim League candidate of UDF. Abdul Razak died in 2018 following a heart attack.
The BJP leader said that there was a conspiracy by Congress and Muslim League to defeat him in the elections and said he is going to face it politically.
He said that his decision to withdraw the case was in response to the people’s wish for a by-poll after the death of Abdul Razak.
