Thiruvananthapuram: Transport Minister Antony Raju has announced that the AI cameras, which have been under experimental operation, will be fully functional starting from 8 am tomorrow. These advanced cameras, equipped with artificial intelligence technology, will play a crucial role in enforcing traffic regulations.
The minister said two adults and a child less than 12 years old can ride pillion on motorbike. They won’t be fined for the time being.
According to the Minister, the cameras will primarily target violations such as riding without helmets, failure to wear seat belts, using mobile phones while driving, running red lights, overspeeding, and reckless parking. The implementation of this automated system aims to improve road safety and ensure compliance with traffic laws.
In a notable development, the state government has also submitted a request to the central government to amend existing regulations, allowing children below 12 years of age to ride pillion in addition to two adults. Until a final decision is reached by the central government, no fines will be imposed for this particular violation.
Minister Antony Raju proudly stated that Kerala will be the first state to employ round-the-clock infrared AI cameras, marking a significant milestone in traffic management and enforcement. The introduction of these advanced surveillance tools is expected to contribute to a safer and more disciplined traffic environment.
As the AI cameras begin their active operation, motorists are advised to strictly adhere to traffic rules and regulations to avoid penalties. The deployment of this technology underscores the government’s commitment to enhancing road safety and reducing traffic violations.
Meanwhile, reports say that Union Transport Minister, Nitin Gadkari, said that exemptions will not be made for two adults and a child under 12 age on two wheelers.
