Thiruvananthapuram: Reports say that the Kerala government is gearing up to amend the code of conduct of government employees to penalize those employees who criticize the government in the cyber space.
It is reported that Chief Secretary, VP Joy, has submitted a report to Chief Minister, Pinarayi Vijayan, outlining the changes to the norms and cyber law, which will in effect bring the government employees under strict government monitoring.
The government authorities are rewriting the code of conduct for government employees after increased instances of criticisms by government employees were reported.
According to the report, the present code of conduct does not include the cyber laws. The government employees accused of criticizing the state government could escape using legal loopholes till now. The government seeks to stop it.
If and when the amendments come into force, the government will have the power to censure government employees from speaking against the state. They could even face dismissal from service.
