Kochi: According to a report, the High Court of Kerala has issued a temporary ban of two weeks on giving building permit to constructions with more than three floors. The HC put a stay on the processing of building permit applications for construction of buildings with more than three floors on Tuesday.
The report said that the temporary ban will be enforced in panchayats of Bison Valley, Chinnakanal, Devikulam, Munnar, Pallivasal, Mankulam, Santhapara, Udumbanchola and Vellathooval. The applications for building permits of buildings with more than one ground floor and two floors will not be processed for the time being.
The order was given by the special division bench of the HC.
According to the report, the HC also asked the panchayats to explain how the authorities gave sanctions for buildings with more than three floors, when it was in violation of an earlier HC order.
The court has appointed Adv. Harish Vasudevan as the amicus curiae.
The bench, comprising Justices, A Muhammad Mustaq and Sophy Thomas, also ordered that the state government must submit an affidavit to the measures taken by it as part of the disaster management plan for the region and to carry out the recommendations of a social impact study, said the report.
The report added that the court was acting on a petition filed by ‘One Earth One Life’ environmental group to ban constructions and land dealings in Devikulam, Udumbanchola, and Peermade taluks until the determination of land ownership of some lands in that area.
