Thiruvananthapuram: Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has arrested two customs inspectors for aiding in gold smuggling through the international airport in the state capital. The arrested officials are Anish Muhammad and Nithin working at the Customs Air Intelligence Unit.
In the investigation it is found that with the aid of these officers, 80kg of gold have been smuggled through the airport multiple times.
Last day, officials had seized smuggled gold from three passengers at the airport. When they were caught the passengers began to shout and said that they were betrayed by the customs officials. They were later taken into custody by DRI officials and questioned.
The gold smugglers gave the statement that the two customs officers have previously helped the accused many times to smuggle gold. The investigation against the officers is based on this statement.
