Ernakulam: The self-styled fake antiques dealer, Monson Mavunkal, received life imprisonment in a POCSO case for sexually abusing the minor daughter of his maid. The judgment was passed by Ernakulam POCSO court. The court observed that Monson Mavunkal was guilty of ten charges out of thirteen.
The court said that Mavunkal was guilty under POCSO Act section 7, 8 and in eight other counts.
The incident related to the case occurred in 2019, when Mavunkal sexually abused his maid’s seventeen-year-old daughter at his residence in Kaloor. He abused her by promising help in higher education. She was sexually exploited more than one time. She was seventeen years of age at the time.
Monson Mavunkal shot to fame as a dealer of very rare antique collection. He made close contacts with highly influential people in society including movie stars, high-level police officer, politicians, etc. However, his antiques were found to be worthless and the historical stories behind his collection were dubious and sometimes even hilarious.
Incidentally, a few days ago the Crime Branch sent notice to KPCC President, K Sudhakaran, in a case related to Monson Mavunkal.
Mavunkal has been in jail since his arrest on September 25, 2021, in a cheating case. He is under investigation by the Crime Branch for cheating Rs.10 crores from various people.
