Thiruvananthapuram: The Latin Church, which spearheaded violent protests against Vizhinjam project, will get land worth crores of rupees in exchange for a piece of land near the beach that has a cross constructed on it.
The state government is planning to transfer two-and-half acres of land taken for Vizhinjam project at Mullur to the Latin Church. The land value there is more than Rs.50 crores. This land will be transferred to the church in exchange of a piece of land near the beach, which has a cross erected on it.
Last day a team headed by the District Collector reached Vizhinjam and held discussions with the church.
The authorities said that the land is handed over to the church as per earlier discussions. However, it must be noted that likewise the land of Sri Krishna Temple of Mullur was also taken by the government five years back to make way for a Ring Road as part of Vizhinjam project. The land of the temple still remains undeveloped.
