Despite the existence of a law against property destruction, incidents of vandalism and damage to public property have been prevalent during protests across the state. The Minister of Public Works Department (PWD) PA Mohammed Riyas has pleaded guilty in a case related to public vandalism and paid a sum of Rs 3, 80,000 at the Vadakara court.
The court’s verdict was delivered in response to a march organized by the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) to the Vadakara Head Post Office. Court Orders twelve individuals, including Muhammad Riaz, to pay penalties. The court orders Riaz to make a direct payment of Rs 40,000 to the court.
Advocate M. Rajesh Kumar, a member of the Central Standing Council, represented the Government of India in the proceedings. The exact amount of the penalty was determined based on the total cost of the damaged property.
