A growing number of civil police officers in Kozhikode district have complaints regarding non-promotion, citing the failure of authorized officials to intervene and fill vacancies. It is alleged despite the existence of vacancies, the lack of action has resulted in frustration and discontent among the officers.
The situation has worsened as the district witnessed the retirement of 120 policemen, including those in senior ranks like SP, during the months of April and May. Among them, approximately 60 individuals are senior civil police officers. Surprisingly, only 57 officers have been promoted thus far, leaving 30 individuals awaiting appointments, according to the list published on November 19, 2022. The presence of 33 authorized vacancies adds to the gravity of the situation, raising questions about the negligence of higher officials in their failure to fill these positions.
Allegations have been directed towards the Kozhikode District Police Chief, who blamed of exhibiting complacency while expediting proceedings in the neighboring Kannur district. It is noteworthy that in other districts, officers who joined the service simultaneously have completed their promotion process within two to three years. The resentment among civil police officers in Kozhikode further intensified when their juniors in the ranks of Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) and Sub-Inspector (SI) were promoted ahead of them.
The growing dissatisfaction within the police force demands urgent attention from authorities. The neglect in addressing promotions and filling vacancies not only affects the officers’ professional growth but also undermines the overall efficiency of law enforcement in Kozhikode district.
The civil police officers in Kozhikode district seek immediate action to rectify the situation. They urge authorized officials to intervene promptly and address the grievances surrounding non-promotion and the filling of vacancies. The officers emphasize the importance of a fair and merit-based system that recognizes their efforts and provides equal opportunities for career advancement.
As the crisis unfolds, pressure mounts on the Kozhikode District Police Chief and other relevant authorities to address the concerns of the officers. Timely intervention, transparency, and accountability are paramount to restore the faith and confidence of the police force and ensure the smooth functioning of law enforcement in the district. The affected officers hope that their complaints will pave the way for meaningful reforms and a more equitable promotion process within the police department.
