Thiruvananthapuram: Congress leader and KPCC President, K Sudhakaran, was arrested yesterday. Before arresting the Crime Branch questioned Sudhakran for seven hours and was let off on bail as per High Court directive.
He was arrested in connection with a cheating case related to fake antiques dealer Monson Mavunkal.
Opposition leader VD Satheesan said that Sudhakaran’s arrest is an act of vengeance by the communist government. Satheesan said that the case against KPCC President is fabricated and that Monson Mavunkal’s driver was quizzed three times and there was no statement against Sudhakaran.
Satheesan said that he had demanded in the legislative assembly that a probe must be initiated on the businessman who paid Monson Mavunkal Rs.10 crore.
It is alleged that Monson Mavunkal told the businessman that he is expecting Rs.2.62 lakh crore rupees from abroad. However, the amount it being blocked by central government. Mavunkal convinced the businessman that if he gets Rs.10 crore then he can remove the blocks for the money to be transferred.
The businessman also alleges that K Sudhakaran was present when he gave Rs.25 lakhs to Mavunkal. The KPCC President promised the businessman that he would use his political influence to remove the hurdles in transferring the huge amount.
Monson Mavunkal was recently awarded life imprisonment for sexually abusing a minor daughter of his maid.
