Calicut: In a concerning revelation, it has come to light that a series of forged degree certificates were discovered in connection with Calicut University. During a verification process in 2021, it was found that five certificates shared an identical register number, clearly indicating their forgery. But, no action was taken against the incident despite the evidence.
The discovery of these fake certificates not only raised serious questions about the integrity of the university but also highlighted the urgent need for decisive measures to be taken. Many voices within the institution stressed the gravity of the situation and emphasized the significance of punishing those responsible for damaging the university’s reputation. However, authorities displayed a surprising reluctance to involve the police or pursue any course of action.
Verification of university degree certificates for the ‘certificate of genuineness / equivalency’ is a usual process in the employment and higher education sectors. In this process, certificates submitted by candidates are thoroughly scrutinized by the university through authorized agencies. It was during one such verification procedure that the existence of five certificates sharing the same register number, thus exposing their fraudulent nature, was uncovered.
In light of this distressing revelation, the Joint Registrar promptly reported the matter and recommended strict action be taken. However, regrettably, no substantial measures were implemented to address this serious breach.
This incident has raised concerns about the credibility of the degree verification process and the overall security of the university’s academic records. It remains to be seen whether the relevant authorities will rectify this issue and take the necessary steps to restore faith in the integrity of Calicut University.
