Thiruvananthapuram: BJP State President, K Surendran, has come down heavily against CPI(M) leadership and Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on their changing positions in implementing Uniform Civil Code (UCC) and their dangerous political moves to consolidate Muslim votes.
K Surendran said that CPI(M), which had supported UCC in the past have now changed its stance for the sake of vote bank politics. The party’s position on UCC is opportunistic.
He pointed out that the Chief Minister is accepting the demands of Muslim League and Jamaat-e-Islami. With this move he is trying to create a destructive political atmosphere by allying with Muslims who have vested interests. This is Pinarayi Vijayan’s calculated move to make his son-in-law, Mohammed Riyas the Chief Minister of the state.
The BJP leader said that the CPI(M) had advocated strongly for the implementation of UCC in the past. Merely reading the resolutions passed by the party’s Polit Buro and Central Committees one can realize it. The UCC ensures equal justice for all. It is also paramount for the empowerment of women. This is also what the communist party had said in the past.
However, now Pinarayi Vijayan and CPI(M) are saying that UCC is BJP’s communal agenda. The communist party is ready to take any dirty decision to stay in power. The CPI(M) is wooing those Muslims, who have vested interests, so as to attract their votes.
The BJP leader said that Pinarayi Vijayan is creating a destructive politics by raising UCC. The party has moved away from its core beliefs and trying to unite Muslim organizations to bring down the Central Government. The communist party and Pinarayi Vijayan are repeating the same strategy that had failed during the anti-CAA protests. This is a bid to bring in the votes of one community to the party and thus make his son-in-law the Chief Minister.
Pinarayi Vijayan is playing a dangerous political move that will have long term repercussions in Kerala, warned K Surendran.
