Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala has implemented a revised speed limit notification, which came into effect today, bringing significant changes to speed regulations, particularly for two-wheelers. The new speed limit for two-wheelers is now set at 50 kmph on city roads and 60 kmph on all other roads.
This marks the first revision of speed limits in the state since 2014.
The decision to revise the speed limits was announced by Transport Minister Antony Raju, who cited the availability of AI cameras across the state as a key factor in implementing these changes. Minister Raju emphasized that introducing the new speed limits can contribute to a reduction in road accidents.
However, there have been allegations that the signboards displaying the revised speed limits have not been installed along the roadsides, potentially leading to confusion among drivers. This concern highlights the importance of promptly addressing the issue to ensure clear communication of the new speed limits to all road users.
