Kochi: The parents of the Dr. Vandana Das, who was murdered by an accused while she was treating his wounds in a Taluk hospital, has approached the High Court of Kerala seeking CBI inquiry into their daughter’s murder, said a report.
The parents submitted the plea for CBI investigation for a transparent probe into the murder. They also said that the present investigation by the Crime Branch is not satisfactory. The HC has issued notice to the respondent authorities.
Dr Vandana was killed by Sandeep at Kottarakkara Taluk Hospital on May 10. She was attending the wounds on Sandeep’s legs after the police brought him to the hospital for medical treatment. Sandeep attacked the police, hospital staff and stabbed Dr Vandana multiple times, which resulted in her tragic death. The accused was in police custody when the attack happened.
The government had come under severe criticism by the High Court after the incident.
The report said that there are allegations of serious lapses in the attack on the doctor. It also said that as the Crime Branch is investigating the case which involves allegations of gross negligence, Vandana’s parents have said that the investigation is far from satisfactory.
Another report said that her parents in the plea allege that police officials attempted to white-wash the police actions. The ADGP gave a statement that Sandeep was a complainant and said that he was brought to the hospital to treat his wounds. However, the parents argue that as per hospital a record Sandeep was an accused who was arrested by the police after receiving a complaint.
The plea says, “The petitioners after the death of their only daughter and the registration of the crime have contacted the hospital authorities and police officials several times to know about the development and various aspects concerning the case. However, they always received only silence in reply. It looked like the police are acting in the influence and coercion of some higher persons of whom the petitioners have no knowledge.”
The parents also alleged that their daughter was not given proper medical care after the attack, the report said.
In another report, the plea submitted by Vandana’s parents said that despite being a doctor and surrounded by medical practitioners she did not receive immediate and adequate treatment. She was taken to Vijaya Hospital first where she remained without proper medical care for an hour.
