Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala is in the grip of fever and the mounting death toll is only increasing the anxiety of the people. The health department’s data shows that the state has 138 dengue affected areas. The department said that these districts must maintain high alert.
Yesterday alone eight people succumbed to fever. The death toll due to fever this month has climbed to an alarming 86 persons.
Dengue fever is also gripping the state. The health department has divided regions according to the presence of the dengue spreading Aedes mosquitoes. Kollam and Kozhikode districts have the most number of hotspots with 20 hotspots in each of these districts. The capital city has twelve hotspots.
The health department informed that the Type 2 Dengue virus is spreading across the state. 12,998 got infected with fever yesterday. It is feared that once the monsoon rains pick up the number of people with fever will increase.
The department has also suggested visiting the hospital for medical treatment if a fever persists for more than two days. The department also warned that fever might get severe for children and those with other medical conditions.
