Malappuram: President of Samastha Kerala Jemiyyathul Ulema, Jifri Muthukkoya Thangal said that the Muslim community cannot accept the Uniform Civil Code (UCC). Bringing a common civil law for everyone is not acceptable. Marriage, divorce, and inheritance are all part of Islam, said Jifri Muthukkoya Thangal.
Muthukkoya Thangal continued that Islam has certain special laws and rules that must be followed. Therefore bringing these things under a common civil law cannot be accepted by the Muslim community. Religion has certain special laws. Marriage, divorce etc are not merely some rituals. It is part of the religion itself.
He added that Muslims cannot be part of the law that will undo the religion itself. We will join hands with political parties and religious communities that support our views and will organize a mass movement against the UCC.
Jiifri Muthukkoya Thangal is an Islamic scholar from Kerala and serves as President of Samastha Kerala Jemiyyathul Ulema, which is a body of Sunni-Shafi’I scholars in northern Kerala.
