Thiruvananthapuram: Another PhD controversy is brewing in the CPI(M). The authenticity of the Chief Minister’s Additional Private Secretary and academic advisor to the CM, Ratheesh Kaliyadan’ PhD has come under scrutiny. It is found that Ratheesh Kalliyadan gained his PhD by fraudulent means.
According to the records, Ratheesh Kaliyadan received his PhD from Assam University while being employed as a teacher in a higher secondary school.
As per the records, Ratheesh was doing his PhD research in the period between October 1, 2012, to November 5, 2014. Moreover, it is found that 70% of Ratheesh Kalliyadan’s thesis is plagiarized. He has plagiarized mostly from the internet, publications and student publications.
This was found out after each chapter was checked using software. The first chapter of his thesis has 85% plagiarized material while the second chapter is 95% plagiarized content. The third chapter is 64% copied material. The software also found out that the fourth chapter of his thesis is 66% copied from the internet and the fifth chapter is 86% copied.
It is also found that Ratheesh Kaliyadan completed his thesis within two years while it is mandatory that the research must be completed in three years.
The Save University Campaign has demanded an inquiry into the Ratheesh Kaliyadan’s thesis work. The organization alleges that it is impossible to complete his PhD in Assam while he was employed as a teacher in Kerala.
