Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala is now experiencing heavy rain. An orange alert has been declared in Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam districts. With this, the Meteorological Department has declared orange alert in 12 districts and red alert in two districts in the state.
Holidays have been announced for educational institutions in Ernakulam, Kasaragod and Alappuzha districts. The forecast says heavy rains are likely to continue for the next two days. Mountainous and coastal regions are asked to observe extreme vigilance. Additionally, fishermen are banned from going to sea.
Heavy rain has brought on extensive damages. Due to the strong current in the estuary, a fishing boat capsized near Muthalapozi, Thiruvananthapuram; the fishermen swam to safety. Alappuzha saw widespread flooding. There are about 250 trapped families in Kurumbanmoozhi, Pathanamthitta. Quarrying and other mining activities have been banned in Ernakulam because of the intense rain. Electricity poles in Thrissur were harmed by falling trees. A large tree collapsed on the road between Peringavu and Shornur.
