THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Ratheesh Kaliyadan, the Additional Private Secretary and Academic Adviser to the Chief Minister, finds himself in the midst of a new controversy surrounding his PhD. Recent reports suggest that there are allegations regarding the legitimacy of Ratheesh’s full-time PhD, which he purportedly obtained from Assam University in 2014.
Questions have been raised by various student associations regarding how Ratheesh managed to engage in full-time research at Assam University while simultaneously working as a school teacher at Thalassery Govt Girls’ Higher Secondary School from 2009 to 2017 in Kerala. The circumstances surrounding this dual commitment have become a subject of concern.
Additionally, it has come to light that approximately 70% of Ratheesh’s thesis was plagiarised, a clear violation of research norms and regulations. The unauthorised use of content from the internet, journals, and other publications has been reported after the thesis underwent a plagiarism check by authorised software.
Specifically, the first chapter was found to have 85% copied content, the second chapter 95%, the third chapter 62%, the fourth chapter 66%, and the fifth chapter 86%.
Furthermore, Ratheesh Kaliyadan’s completion of his doctoral research within just two years has raised eyebrows, as the UGC (University Grants Commission) mandates a minimum three-year duration for the completion of a PhD. This accelerated timeline, coupled with his employment as a government school teacher in Kerala, has sparked demands for a thorough investigation by the Save University Campaign student group.
The allegations surrounding Ratheesh Kaliyadan’s PhD and the reported plagiarism have ignited a significant controversy, shedding light on the need for a comprehensive examination of the circumstances surrounding his academic achievements.
