Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) employees have yet to receive their salaries for this month, as the government cites ongoing delays in salary distribution. Amidst a financial crisis, the government had earlier announced that salaries would be paid in installments every month. However, the promised first installment, expected to be disbursed before the 5th of each month, remains unpaid as of July 7.
Initially, the government had provided Rs 50 crore as assistance, but this amount has been reduced to Rs 30 crore over the past few months. Although the finance department has initiated the necessary procedures to allocate the first installment, no decision has been reached so far.
With today and tomorrow being public holidays, even if the amount is sanctioned on Monday, it is unlikely that the procedures will be completed and salaries will be disbursed on the same day. As a result, employees may have to wait until the 10th of this month to receive their salaries.
In addition to the salary issues, pensioners in the KSRTC have also faced difficulties as their pensions have not been distributed for the past two months. The delay is attributed to the lack of a signed contract between the Finance and Cooperative Departments and the KSRTC, which is responsible for allocating the annual pension amount. This delay has caused significant distress among the pensioners, further exacerbating their situation.
There are serious accusations being made against the government for neglecting the timely distribution of salaries to its employees. Meanwhile, it is alleged that the government is increasing the expenses allocated to Ministers and MLAs.
