ERNAKULAM: The High Court has stepped in to address the land accusation case concerning PV Anvar, Nilambur MLA. The court has directed the retrieval of surplus land currently in Anvar’s possession and has ordered the immediate submission of the action report. Additionally, the court has mandated that an affidavit be filed by next Tuesday.
This order comes as a result of a contempt of court case filed by a group of Right to Information (RTI) activists. The activists took legal action after the government failed to act on a previous order issued in 2017. Specifically, on March 20, 2020, the High Court had issued an order to recover the excess land within six months. However, a subsequent contempt of court petition was filed in January 2022, alleging non-compliance with this order.
As the government did not implement the court’s directives, the RTI activists approached the court with another contempt of court petition. The High Court sought an explanation from the government, which then requested respite. However, the bench led by Justice Raja Vijayaraghavan declined the government’s demand, upholding the court’s instructions.
Notably, RTI activist KV Shaji has alleged that Anvar and his family own approximately 200 acres. Shaji said to the Janam TV that they possess relevant details and will soon submit them to the court.
A group of Right to Information (RTI) activists has lodged a complaint with the Kerala High Court against PV Anvar, an Independent MLA supported by the Left Democratic Front in Nilambur.
The activists are seeking government intervention to reclaim the land that Anvar possesses, which exceeds the limit set by the Land Reforms Act.
