Kozhikode: A report said that CPI(M) Kozhikode District Committee demanded strict action against ex-MLA of the party and CPI(M) leader, George M Thomas, for raising a love jihad accusation against another party leader last year. The demand was put forward in the presence of State Secretary, MV Govindan.
According to the report, the committee also raised other serious allegations of corruption against George M Thomas and demanded that the leader must be ousted from all key posts in the party.
The report said that George M Thomas had referred to a marriage of DYFI activist Shejin with a Christian woman, Joisna Mary Joseph, as ‘love jihad’ last year.
Another report said that the former MLA had quoted party documents mentioning that love jihad is a reality. To make his point clear he referred to an in-house party note of September 2021 speaking of attempts made to lure youth into extremism and communalist ideologies. The note also mentions that efforts are made to make young women in professional colleges also think in similar ways.
However, the CPI(M) took a strong stand against George M Thomas. The party was upset that its leader mentioned about love jihad, when the party itself is claiming that love jihad doesn’t exist. The CPI(M) had publically censured him and tried to put a lid on the controversy fearing a backlash from the Muslim community.
