Thiruvananthapuram: Reports say that Biju Prabhakar IAS, currently the Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Kerala’s State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has met the Chief Secretary and requested that he must be removed from his position of CMD.
Biju Prabhakar’s request comes after the KSRTC failed to pay full salary to its employees this month. Also, the High Court had ordered that the CMD must present himself before the court if the salaries of the employees are not paid before 20th of this month.
It is reported that the salary payment failed due to the Finance Department’s reluctance to approve the fund on time. The Finance Department gives Rs.30 crores as salary to KSRTC. Yesterday the first installment of the salary was paid to the employees. Usually the first installment is given on 5th of every month.
KSRTC authorities claim that the money allowed by the Finance Department is only enough to pay the first installment of the salary to the KSRTC employees, said the report.
Yesterday a march was held by the INTUC towards Biju Prabhakaran’s residence. He had also requested the Transport Minister, Antony Raju, to remove him from position as there are hindrances in paying the salary.
The report said that KSRTC accuses the Finance Department for sabotaging the Chief Minister’s surety that said that every employee will be paid salary on the fifth of every month. Transport Minister, Antony Raju, also expressed similar views about the Finance Department.
It is reported that though the KSRTC made revenue of Rs.225 crores last month, the corporation is unable to pay salaries to its employees. The Unions have threatened that if the salaries are not paid, the employees will not come to work. They also said that if the government goes forward like this, then it is unlikely that they will get salary during Onam.
