THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Central Minister V. Muraleedharan visited Muthalappozhi in response to a series of accidents that recently occurred in the region. During his interaction with the press, he said that the Central Fisheries department would conduct a comprehensive study of the area to identify a permanent solution for the ongoing issues.
Expressing concerns over the state government’s alleged neglect of local residents, the Central Minister emphasized that the central expert team would engage with the people of the region directly. To address the real issues faced by the community, the Central government decided to consult the local residents, recognizing their invaluable insights.
Accompanying the minister was an expert team comprising representatives from the Fisheries Development Commissioner, Fisheries Assistant Commissioner, and the Central Institute of Coastal Engineering for Fishery (CICEF) Director. This visit came after a tragic boat accident last week that claimed four lives in Muthalappozhi.
Prior to his visit, Minister Muraleedharan had discussions with Union Fisheries Minister Shri Parshottam Rupala to explore potential permanent solutions for the challenges faced by fishermen in the area.
The expert committee will engage with fishermen and others in the fisheries sector, actively seeking their input and understanding their problems and suggestions. The minister also plans to attend meetings with the local people to get a firsthand account of the issues they face.
Additionally, discussions about the renovation of the harbor will be on the agenda for finding comprehensive solutions.
