Justice Ashish Jitendra Desai has officially assumed the position of the 38th Chief Justice of the Kerala High Court. In a ceremonial event today, the full court will gather in the Chief Justice’s chamber at 10.15 am to welcome him into his new role.
Justice Desai succeeds Justice S V Bhatti, who was recently promoted to a Supreme Court judge. During the vacancy left by Justice Bhatti, Justice Alexander Thomas served as the Acting Chief Justice of the Kerala High Court.
Prior to his appointment in Kerala, Justice Ashish Jitendra Desai had been serving as the Acting Chief Justice of the Gujarat High Court since February of the previous year. Notably, he is the son of the late Justice Jitendra P Desai, a former judge of the Gujarat High Court.
Meanwhile, the High Court is set to reevaluate the plea filed by the father of the late Dr. Vandana Das, requesting a CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) probe into her murder.
The state government has informed the court that it believes there is no necessity for a CBI investigation.
