Thiruvananthapuram: New guidelines have been released by the Tamil Nadu government restricting supply of stones for port construction at Vizhinjam. However, the Adani Group intends to convey to the state government that these guidelines are not applicable to their operations. A representative from the Adani Group is scheduled to meet with the Chief Minister today to discuss this matter. The Group is apprehensive that the implementation of these regulations and new guidelines could potentially cause delays in the port construction process.
Due to the deteriorating monsoon weather, construction activities, including dredging, had been temporarily halted. Additionally, a new crisis has now emerged in port construction as the Tamil Nadu government has imposed restrictions on the import of stones from the regions of Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari for the construction of Vizhinjam port.
With this, the prospect of the ship arriving at the port during Onam is diminishing. The Department Minister, Ahmed, had previously expressed the intention of presenting the port as an Onam gift to the state. However, with the restrictions on stone imports now in place, there are growing concerns about whether the port will be completed on schedule.
