Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has stepped in to address the incident where his microphone malfunctioned during his speech at the Oommen Chandy memorial function, which was organized by the KPCC. A day after the Cantonment Police registered a case regarding the incident, the Chief Minister intervened and instructed the police not to pursue the case further. There has been significant criticism over the hurried filing of the case, prompting the Chief Minister to direct the police to focus solely on addressing any potential security breaches and refrain from taking any additional actions.

The Cantonment Police took the initiative to register a peculiar offense after the Chief Minister’s microphone was interrupted during the program organized by KPCC. Surprisingly, no formal complaint was lodged by anyone regarding the incident; however, the police decided to file one voluntarily. The First Information Report (FIR) indicates that the accused behaved in a manner that jeopardized public safety. Strangely, the FIR does not specify the identity of the accused involved in the incident.

According to the FIR, during the Chief Minister’s speech at the commemoration event for former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy at Ayyankali Hall, there was interference with the microphone, creating a security issue. The accused has been charged under Section 118(e) of the Kerala Police Act, 2011. Following the incident, the microphone, amplifier, and wire were seized by the police.

In addition, the FIR mentions that the Electrical Inspectorate will conduct an examination today to investigate the matter further. It is noteworthy that in previous instances where the Chief Minister delivered speeches, there have been incidents of microphone malfunctioning, but no one had previously filed a case attributing it to public safety concerns.
