Thiruvananthapuram: The government will hold talks with the Adani Group on the Muthalapozhi issue. Discussions are scheduled to be held on Monday. A sub-committee of ministers will negotiate with the Adani Group. The sub-committee will also hold discussions with representatives of the fisher folk.
The CPM state secretariat meeting that was held today approved the decision to hold talks with the Adani Group on the Muthalapozhi issue. Leaders including State Secretary MV Govindan and Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan were present during the meeting.
Earlier, the Fisheries Department had postponed its meeting with Adani Group in connection with the Muthalapozhi accidents. The meeting was dropped due to the inconvenience of the state government. The state government had earlier promised to hold a meeting with Adani Group to discuss about removing the sand deposit immediately. The sand deposits at Muthalapozhi have led to numerous boat accidents and deaths in the area.
The people turned against the state government after accidents at Muthalapozhi became frequent. The state government had informed earlier that before the Central Government’s expert committee examines the area, the state will hold meeting with Adani Group and will begin the process of removing the sand deposit. But even after the Central Government’s expert committee’s inspection got over, the State Government kept delaying the discussion.
Now that the meeting date is scheduled, the fisher folk who are living in the fear of accidents hope to get the problems resolved.
