Thrissur: Renowned Malayalam writer Ashita passed away in a private hospital last night at Thrissur. She was 63. Ashita had been under prolonged treatment for cancer. A prominent writer in Malayalam literature, Ashita has made mark in short stories,poems, translations as well as in writings for children.
Ashita was born on 5th April 1956 at Pazhayannur in Thrissur district. She completed her schooling from Delhi and Mumbai and took her post graduation in English Literature from Maharajas College Ernakulam.
Ashita’s famous works include ‘Ashitayude Kadhakal’, ‘Apoorna Viramangal’, ‘Vismaya Chihnangal’, ‘Mazhameghangal’, ‘Kallu vecha Nunakal’, ‘Oru Sthreeyum Parayathath’ and translation of Alexander Pushkin’s poetry.
Ashita has received several awards including the prestigious Edasseri Award, Lalithambika Antharjanam Award,Padmarajan Award and Short stories award from Kerala Sahithya Academy. She is survived by her husband K V Ramankutty and daughter Uma Praseeda.
