Thiruvananthapuram: A two-year old child was denied medical treatment at the Thycaud Women and Children Hospital. The doctor denied the treatment to the child of Harijith and Ashwini, hailing from Karamana. The mother said that the doctor refused to treat the child even after repeatedly begging for the doctor’s care.
The child was brought to the hospital after having serious breathing problem. However, the doctor asked the couple to take the child to a private clinic in the vicinity of the hospital. After repeated requests the doctor did not even once examine the child.
The duty doctor denied medical treatment on the grounds that the couple had taken the child to the private clinic which was run by a doctor, who had earlier retired from Thycaud Women and Children Hospital.
The couple complained that the doctor behaved with them arrogantly even after informing the doctor that there is infection in the child’s blood and the oxygen level is low.
It must be noted that medical treatment to a two year old child was denied at a time when it is claimed that Kerala medical care is the number one in the country.
