Thiruvananthapuram: KSRTC employees staged a protest over salary crisis, led by BMS, where they expressed their grievances through different forms of demonstration. One was performing ‘Shayana Pradakshinam’ in front of the secretariat. Additionally, the employees also resorted to a symbolic suicide strike as part of their protest.
(Shayana Pradakshinam is done by prostration in a lying posture. It starts with a Sashtanga Namaskara in front of the sanctum sanctorum. In Sashtanga Namaskara posture, the devotees circumambulate on the Pradakshina path. The relatives and friends of the devotees help them to roll around)
Earlier, an amount of Rs 30 crore was allocated to cover the previous month’s salary for KSRTC employees. However, this allocation was considerably delayed. In response to this issue, KSRTC had conducted a protest at the MD’s residence. Despite the allocation being approved by the finance department, the funds have not yet been disbursed to the officials’ accounts. With Onam approaching, the officials are finding themselves in a severe financial crisis.
